Michelle Geraghty, senior corporate counsel at HubSpot, began her career training with BCM Hanby Wallace, now Byrne Wallace. Following this she spent nine months working in Australia, and as she says, ‘fell into an in-house role quite by accident and never looked back’. Since her return to Ireland, she has worked in-house in technology companies in numerous different sectors and has been with HubSpot since February 2017. Speaking about her move to HubSpot Geraghty highlights that, ‘the work is not only challenging and varied, but the company culture is second to none. It’s truly a pleasure to go to work every day’. Other highlights include her first in-house role in Australia which she describes as ‘the moment I realised that working in a company was the most natural fit for me’ and her first time working as the sole EMEA counsel in a multi-national company during her time at Afilias. She highlights that, ‘both of these moments altered the course of my career path for the better and opened new doors and challenges’. Being the first legal counsel outside the US at HubSpot has meant that she has the task of building a partnership with her EMEA and Asia Pacific stakeholders. There has been incredible growth at HubSpot since she started as the company has expanded from 200 to over 600 staff in Dublin alone in two years. Geraghty highlights that, ‘the challenge has always been to provide an efficient, scalable service. Our use of technology helps with this goal but it’s always important to provide a personal service where colleagues know you’re approachable and transparent. Having a legal presence in EMEA means we’ve made great strides in keeping an ear to the ground to ensure the legal needs of the company are met in all international offices’.
