Peter Caley, the highly experienced and capable chief legal officer at Goshawk, qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2001 and spent 10 years in private practice based in both London and the Middle East. Throughout this period, Caley specialised in asset financing, with a particular emphasis on aircraft, and leasing work. Over the course of his private practice career he acted for banks, lessors, airlines and export credit agencies. In 2011, Caley joined Avolon’s legal team in Dublin where he was involved in a wide range of aircraft leasing, sale and financing transactions, including capital markets, ECA and Ex-Im financings, and Avolon’s manufacturer orders. In 2015, Caley joined Goshawk as its chief legal officer, and has built a team of six lawyers working on a mix of corporate and aircraft leasing and financing transactions. Caley has successfully framed the way in which the legal function interacts with the wider company. He identifies that his top highlights of the last three years include, ‘building up an in-house team of six lawyers working on a mix of corporate and aircraft leasing and financing transactions; working on the US$3bn acquisition by Goshawk of Sky Leasing; being part of the management team which has built Goshawk from lessor with approximately 45 aircraft in Q4 2015 to a top ten lessor with approximately 222 aircraft in Q2 2018’.
