What impact did Brexit have on the financial Industry in Ireland?
While there have been no serious direct impacts for us in Dublin, there were more serious ones for our London branch. As a food and agriculture focused bank, there have been major challenges for our clients. We are working closely with them to help them overcome these.
In what ways do you see your role evolving over the next few years?
Our role has always evolved and continues to do so. The regulatory landscape is becoming more complex, and Rabobank Dublin is growing as a service centre for the Rabobank group globally, hiring approximately 50 additional staff because of this. As well as transactions with clients, there are more internal transactions with our internal Rabobank customers that we have to deal with.
What are the most significant cases and/or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
We were critically involved in the creation of Milkflex Loans in Ireland, which has been a tremendous success and continues to go from strength to strength. We also support our clients internationally with bespoke securitisations.
As we enter the next decade, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?
Commercial acumen, excellent technical knowledge of both the legal and regulatory landscape and great communication skills.
