What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

As an associate general counsel in the cyber and information security legal team (EMEA), I play a critical role in advising both Meta Platforms Ireland and WhatsApp Ireland on their cyber and information security obligations. I co-lead Meta and WhatsApp’s EU security incident response team, co-ordinating regulatory notices and engagements across all 27 Member States, while working with a cross-functional team in multiple jurisdictions, including across EMEA and the US in the immediate aftermath of incidents.

I provide operational and strategic legal support to Meta’s security and investigative teams on issues such as information sharing, internal and external threat mitigation, as well as developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the organisation is compliant with all relevant laws and regulations. I also work closely with Meta’s global investigations teams on a multitude of business-critical matters, including highly sensitive issues which can require immediate attention and action at board level.

In terms of security incident response, I organise and spearhead ‘tabletop’ exercises so that the organisation is well placed to respond urgently to cyber incidents. I played a central role in responding to various security incidents and cyber incidents which occurred in 2023. Utilising my expertise, I work to help to ensure the security, confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of Meta’s EU users’ data.

I also have a key role in horizon scanning for incoming legislation and regulation which will have a significant impact on Meta. Most recently, I have been helping the organisation prepare for the introduction of enhanced cyber related laws, with a particular focus on EU laws, at a domestic and European level.
