What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Daa operates Dublin and Cork airports in Ireland. It has two main subsidiaries; ARI, its worldwide travel retail duty free business, and daa International, its global airport operator business. The legal team supports the businesses both nationally and internationally, and provides strategic legal direction on the wide breath of projects undertaken by the various businesses.

Examples of recent and on-going projects include a €3bn infrastructure spend to support current and future growth at our airports; settling the regulatory framework regarding passenger numbers and flights at Dublin airport; key public transport connections to our airports, including the Metrolink to Dublin airport; key commercial contracts and concessions at our national airports; and strategic commercial contracts at international airports, both in the retail offering space and airport operator concessions.

How have you attempted to bring the legal department closer to your business colleagues?

We partner with our business colleagues. It is critical that we understand their business, so that we can give them relevant and customised advice.

How does the in-house legal function contribute to the overall dispute resolution strategy of the organisation?

Where relevant, we advocate for mediation, making every effort to avoid incurring large external expenditure.
