Headquartered in Tralee, public food company Kerry Group control some of Ireland’s most well-known brands including Wall’s, Mattessons and Cheesestrings. Posting a revenue figure of €6bn in 2015 and employing over 24,000 people, the scope of work for the legal team is subsequently diverse. Kerry Group has made several high-profile acquisitions in recent times, and the legal function, led by Martin O’Donoghue as global head of group legal affairs, is central to the success of this expansion strategy. In the last 18 months purchases have included the purchase of hot dog supplier Rollover, as well as the acquisition of three US-based businesses in Red Arrow Products, Island Oasis and Wellmune for $735m, bolstering Kerry’s taste and nutritional solutions portfolio. As the international expansion of Kerry Group continues, the legal team has been asked to increase its knowledge base of both international law and global regulation, as well as continue to be at the heart of the business discussions around strategy and long-term planning.
