University College Dublin
One of Ireland’s leading higher education institutions, University College Dublin’s (UCD) day to day operation and strategy is safeguarded by its innovative and forward-looking legal function. Working on a comprehensive remit, the team is focussed on monitoring any legislative developments to ensure that UCD is aware of and compliant with legislation that applies to any of its activities, facilitating cross-departmental communication if appropriate. The team’s contract work often necessitates the involvement of several other of the universities’ departments, so clear communication and collaboration is essential. The legal team’s work is also tied into preparing, reviewing and giving advice to all UCD legal documentation relating to its various activities, which in any one case may include property acquisition, licencing and inter-institutional agreements such as teaching hospitals or foreign universities with relation to agreements on academic courses. Managing relationships with external counsel and providing company secretarial services are also a part of the team’s responsibilities, further showing the flexible and broad nature of their work.
