Established in 2014 and headquartered in Dublin, Accipiter is the wholly-owned aircraft leasing company of CK Asset Holdings Limited. Over the past four years, Accipiter has transitioned from a start-up operating lessor to a fully-fledged global aircraft leasing company. Its legal team, led by Ernie Yu, senior vice president legal, compliance and transaction management, has been built from the ground up in step with the business and servicing platform. It is a compact but cohesive unit that has primary responsibility for all of Accipiter’s legal, compliance and contractual matters, from bread and butter contracts associated with the day-to-day running of the leasing business to cross-border and big-ticket transactions. The team consists of six members in total, four of whom are legal counsel and two are legal assistants. Ultimately, the team’s focus is to protect the company and proactively manage legal risk whilst contributing to the company’s organic growth and success. One of the more high-profile and standout transactions for the team was the US$1.2bn refinancing of a 43-aircraft portfolio, which was successfully closed in 2016 within three months from mandate despite the portfolio size and large banking consortium comprising eleven banks.
