Nordic Aviation Capital Transaction Legal Team

About

The transaction legal team at Nordic Aviation Capital (“NAC”), led by group vice president Marc Op de Weegh, manages all legal matters for a global fleet of over 400 aircraft, on lease with over 70 customers in 48 different countries. Op de Weegh has been with NAC for over twelve years, and in the past two years – upon his appointment to head of transaction legal – has grown and restructured the department which as of today comprises six highly experienced lawyers including Göran Miörner, Declan Moloney, Andrew T. Park, Marije Borghart and Suzanne Hannon. The lawyers work together with a team of seven legal managers, made up of qualified lawyers and leasing and legal industry veterans, and two experienced administration staff. NAC’s transaction legal department is based in Ireland, Singapore and Fort Lauderdale and works in “deal teams” with NAC’s Commercial and Technical teams, focusing on the negotiation and implementation of leasing arrangements with NAC’s customers. The deal teams take a proactive approach to negotiations with customers, preferring face-to-face meetings to avoid endless and often ineffective email traffic. The transaction legal team also works in close collaboration with NAC’s Global Funding, group general counsel and asset management departments to ensure that the company’s financing, corporate governance, compliance and fleet planning strategies are effectively implemented. During the past year, the transaction legal team supported NAC’s acquisition, remarketing and placement of aircraft on lease with new and existing customers to bring NAC’s global fleet to over 400 aircraft. Other achievements included the transaction legal team’s contribution to the successful implementation across the leased fleet of NAC’s funding strategy to expand and diversify its sources of funding to take full advantage of NAC’s financial strength and market-leading position. During the financial year 2016 to 2017, NAC secured debt facilities of US$1.7bn which included the commencement of NAC’s unsecured debt program with the placement of five year and seven year unsecured notes totalling US$200m and an unsecured revolving credit facility of US$350m with leading aviation banks. The transaction legal team also worked collaboratively with NAC’s Business Process Group to ensure the successful implementation of the company’s global online platform as the central repository for all fleet related data and documentation.
