Originating from the UK, registered in Jersey, headquartered in Ireland and with an operational base in the US, Shire Pharmaceuticals is a truly global pharmaceutical business whose products include well-known brands such as Vyvanse, Lialda, and Adderall XR. The company conducts business through multiple offices located in Dublin and the US with a manufacturing site based in Massachusetts. Aside from overseeing legal affairs for the Irish business of the company, which is in itself large, its Dublin-based legal unit is paramount in its work on matters that have global implications on Shire’s business. 2018 so far has been a particularly noteworthy year for the team, as it has worked on and provided valuable insight to assist the impending acquisition of Shire by Takeda Pharmaceuticals for $62bn. The team’s lead Irish lawyer, Susan O’Reilly stands out in this year’s research for her advice on this transaction. More generally, her skills in dispute resolution, intellectual property and commercial litigation have been a further cause for praise.
