Damien Moynagh’s UDG Healthcare legal team is a forward-thinking and technologically literate one, with Moynagh listing adaptability with technology as among the primary characteristics he looks for in the team’s lawyers. One example of how the team has utilised technology to improve its performance is in internal workload tracking. ‘We have developed an internal workload tracker’, Moynagh explains, ‘which allows us to give the business insight into how our team sees the world – being able to show the business a regular breakdown of contracts being negotiated by client, by geographic region and by type, as well as associated trending allows us to provide actionable data to our internal colleagues’. UDG’s legal team is highly coordinated with the rest of the business, and each of the team members ‘has built up and regularly demonstrate strong business acumen and instinct’. Alongside ‘commercial contracts, which are almost all supported in-house’, Moynagh reports that UDG’s legal function ‘regularly supports the Group’s active M&A team and continues to manage the Group’s GDPR compliance work in-house’. Although small relative to the size of UDG, the legal function’s strong team culture and ethos is noteworthy, and Moynagh praises team members’ belief in their ability to improve and influence the wider Group for the better.
