What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

With 1,500,000 clinical users using Clanwilliam products and services across 20 countries, the team assists the global team across various legal disciplines, including commercial contracts, corporate governance, data protection, intellectual property, employment, trademarks and commercial legal matters. This year has been hectic for the legal team at Clanwilliam. The team has been engaged in several projects that aim to transform the Irish healthcare technology market.

What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

The legal team’s technical and geographical remit continues to expand as the business develops new products across multiple jurisdictions. During that period, the team has been a value add while working closely with senior management to ensure that the team are both problem solvers and strategic facilitators while carefully managing outside counsel expenditure. Since the impact of the pandemic, the legal role has broadened; therefore, a challenge has been to ensure that the business objective and legal function remain aligned, even in times of crisis.

Has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected your company and the team’s priorities, and if so how?

ESG has become a buzzword over the last 12 months. The legal function has played a role in ensuring directors are aware of legislative changes and assisting in designing and implementing revised governance structures and strategies.
