What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Since our recent IPO, the legal team has been heavily involved in supporting all commercial activities and strategic initiatives that drive Udemy’s growth. The team has been instrumental in facilitating this growth, partnering with some of the world’s leading organisations to enable delivery of our platform to a wider audience of multinationals, their employees and customer base.

What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

Technology remains our main focus, to meet the challenge of growing business demands. We are working to integrate legal services with the business platforms and establish a more agile, multidisciplinary team. We are piloting automation tools for core legal documentation, self-service tools for low-value, repetitive and routine work, and implementing agile organisational practices to manage business requests across multiple disciplines.

Our legal team goes beyond professional expectations and brings the fun and energy into work, helping our team stay connected in a hybrid work environment and build connections with the business.

Has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected your company and the team’s priorities, and if so, how?

As a mission-driven company, sustainability is at the core of Udemy’s business model and environment. Social and governance is a priority for the legal team in supporting the business. Udemy supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of promoting quality education; advancing talent, global expertise, and economic opportunity; and catalysing diversity and inclusivity. In 2022 and 2023, Udemy was recognised as a top-rated company across sustainability metrics by Sustainalytics, a Morningstar company.
