Alejandro Bes Garralaga has served as the corporate legal counsel for multinational technology company Apple for the last four years, providing legal support to Apple’s business in the Southern European region of Italy, Spain and Portugal. Bes Garralaga is responsible for dealing with legal matters related to commercial law, contract law, consumer law, e-commerce law, copyright law, advertising legislation, data privacy and finance related matters. As the legal head he has worked hard to identify talent with local firms, picking the most specialised teams that allow them to give sophisticated legal advice to the business in relatively short timeframes. ‘Changing regions and getting expertise in Italy has been a challenge that allowed me to face problems from a different perspective, with more flexibility and creativity’ says Bes Garralaga. He has been able to showcase his creativity through a number of initiatives, most markedly rolling out the iOS Developer Academy and iOS Foundation Program in parallel with more than five universities in the Campania Naples region. This allows students – for the time in Europe – to gain the practical skills and training on developing apps for iOS, focusing on software development, start-up creation and app design with an emphasis on creativity and collaboration to empower and equip students to develop new skills.
