In his role of head of legal – Italy for worldwide electronic payment processor PayPal, Gianluca Di Nunzio is an Italian qualified lawyer with vast experience in e-commerce, electronic payments, information technology and intellectual property law. During his five years at PayPal, Di Nunzio has been initially the legal lead for Italy, Benelux and Central Eastern Europe regions, playing a key role in strategic negotiations with global players such as Booking.com and KLM. Then he moved to lead legal-marketing matters for the wider C-EMEA region as well as focusing even more on commercial-legal matters for Italy where he has been instrumental in marking PayPal’s presence and innovative features, negotiating for PayPal all major agreements with groups operating in strategic verticals such as travel, insurance, grocery, electronics and fashion. Listed amongst the most notable highlights for PayPal in Italy, Di Nunzio has worked on the development and establishment of PayPal Carica, the first PayPal app developed outside of North America, which gives Italian PayPal users the possibility to top up their mobile numbers from a single app regardless of the mobile service provider they use. This task has given him the possibility to play a key role in the development of a complete new app for consumers within a global corporation like PayPal. While working on the implementation of the second Payment Services Directive and the fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive, Di Nunzio also led the integration of PayPal in the PagoPA platform, which gives Italian PayPal users the possibility to pay their taxes using PayPal. This well received project together with the work done on regulations impacting payment firms in the European Union, has given Di Nunzio the opportunity to further cooperate with institutional bodies in Italy and abroad. Di Nunzio joined PayPal in 2013 after more than ten years of legal experience in-house and within Italian and international law firms handling matters involving IP law, M&A, commercial law and information technology law.
