Luca Galantucci
Head of legal Italy, Israel and Greece | Signify
Reflecting his ability and the progress he has made in a very short space of time, Luca Galantucci was asked to become head of legal for Italy, Israel and Greece at Signify (formerly known as Philips Lighting) at just 31 years old. Working for a global leader in the development of connected lighting systems, he is responsible to provide complex legal services to the business consisting of corporate and commercial advice for the selling of products and services, advising and supporting contract negotiations in all aspects. ‘This for me has been so far the greatest opportunity of growth and success: working for a global leader while managing a team made up of excellences and highly skilled professionals’ says Galantucci. As head of legal he took the decision to reshape the legal department completely, focusing on the professional skills of every team member and tried to let them grow in areas of interest, expanding their expertise to new areas which he considered suitable or interesting for them. With the plethora of law firms assisting the company, Galantucci issued a request for proposal (RFP) creating a panel of trusted law firms for the company with clear fees, expertise and point of contacts. Through this system he hugely decreased the legal costs having achieved a ‘quality approach’. One of his major deals includes a complex and innovative deal that Philips Lighting entered with a major oil and gas producer, of which he states: ‘The deal was aimed at providing the customer with our most innovative technology all over its distribution network in order to reduce its costs and increase the efficiency of its grid’ says Galantucci. Before joining Signify, he started his career as an in-house counsel for Hewlett Packard and in 2015 he had the chance to co-lead the implementation in Italy of the HP separation, a transaction globally valued at US$89bn. Galantucci describes this experience as a ‘tremendous professional experience’ giving him the chance to have a ‘360-degree view’ over all the legal and business issues that a demerger produces. In 2017 he also had to opportunity to work for the spin-off of the Enterprise Services and software business units of HPE which were then merged with two different companies – CSC and Micro Focus.
