Maria Francesca Portincasa brings her strong background in international studies and her knowledge of competition law to multinational renowned manufacturer of luxury super sports cars, Automobili Lamborghini. Serving in this role for the last 13 years, Portincasa has seen the company expand across international borders, requiring her to supervise external law firms in Europe, the US, China and UAE. ‘Working in Lamborghini is very challenging because it is a dynamic company where a lawyer can see all the aspects of a car manufacturer, starting from the production, sourcing of the supplier, sales, after sales, marketing, sponsorship [and] IP. Moreover, we are dealing with all the matters worldwide and this contributes to the render this work unique’ says Portincasa. Most recently she has been central to innovative fields within motorsport activities, in particular implementing the sporting regulations and participations to FIA proceedings. She has worked on the drafting of new dealer agreements due to changes in European law and qualitative standards, working on a technologically-innovative connected car scheme: ‘This has been a really challenging topic with several aspects to be considered, starting from telecom legislation, and passing through data protection and consumer law’ says Portincasa. Speaking on future goals for the legal department, Portincasa says she is trying to work in close connection with all departments in order to support matters from inception, with the aim to avoid conflicts afterwards. At the beginning of 2018 she was appointed as a member of the product safety committee, in charge of monitoring the products in field and to launch the appropriate measures in case of defects and non-compliance with legislation.
