Pierpaolo Cotone joined the national public broadcasting company of Italy, Radiotelevisione Italiana (Rai), in 2015 to work on legal and corporate affairs. Prior to his current role, in 2004 he joined Italy’s sixth largest bank and subsidiary of BNP Paribas, Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (BNL), where he held the positions of director of the corporate bodies area, secretary of the board of directors and central manager. During this time he was also the chairman of the board of auditors of the BNL Foundation, secretary of the nominations and remuneration committees of the BNL supervisory body and a board member of ABI – Italian Banking Association. He also had a spell at Telecom Italia Group, where he also held the position of secretary of the board of directors and of the corporate governance committee and of the director of TIM and SEAT. For a year he carried out independent freelance work in Rome and Milan, on projects for listed companies and non-profit organisations. Prior to this, in 1996 he was Aeroporti di Roma’s head of legal affairs, managing the path that lead to the privatisation of the company from a legal standpoint.
