Silvia Bertulli serves as the head of legal and corporate affairs department of Milan Stock Exchange listed company and Italian apparel manufacturer company Moncler. Bertulli is responsible for creating, developing and managing a team of 12 lawyers and a paralegal to support the company business worldwide on all legal and compliance matters. ‘When I joined the company I was the only lawyer present and I started to immediately create a “legal culture” to spread trust and basic legal knowledge in every department, and this was the first big challenge’ says Bertulli. This was something which she admits proved particularly challenging amid a creative fashion environment where there is little familiarity with having a legal mind-set. Bertulli has since been fully involved in the business and moreover, an active part of the retail development from both a business and strategic perspective. A testament to this has been her contribution to the set-up of the Moncler joint venture in Japan, which was her first official exposure as a company representative making decisions both on commercial and legal aspects on behalf of the company. Moncler’s listing to the Milan Stock Exchange in 2013 was also a significant time in her career as she states it marked ‘the starting of a new era and a new approach to the market, public and authorities’. She also worked on the opening of the Paris flagship store and the New York Madison Avenue flagship store, of which Bertulli comments: ‘To see the two amazing shops realised after almost one year of tough negotiations with landlords in both cases has given me a great satisfaction and let me feel like an active part of a fantastic company who has started to be considered a leading actor in the luxury world’.
