How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?
The pandemic has impacted the work of in-house counsel. Firstly, it has relied on increased remote working which required skills of virtual collaboration. Accelerated digital transformation, across multiple sectors and in relation to legal aspects has taken place. There has been a turn to new technologies to ensure secure access to information and repositories software, necessary to enable remote working.
What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
The Assicurazioni Generali legal team has been involved in many transactions and cases during the past years. One of the most significant is the MoU ‘data science and artificial intelligence institute’, in partnership with the SISSA, the University of Trieste, the University of Udine, the Abdus Salam international centre for theoretical physics and the Trieste school of management. Between 2019 and 2021 we have been involved in antitrust and IP aspects related to the public tender offer on Cattolica Assicurazioni and the acquisition of all the shares owned by AXA group in its Greek subsidiary. Generali extended its presence in Portugal thanks to investments in the Seguradoras Unidas and AdvanceCare in Portugal.
