How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

Yes. There are many more challenges and problems for a business, and this implies work with resources which are under constant pressure. The lack of travel or time at the office is affecting the frequency of personal and professional interactions with the legal and the business team, thereby impacting efficiency and morale.

What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Our team is involved in a variety of projects across the US, Europe, and Asia, with a focus on commercial transactions for the sale of equipment and services on agreements to expand our manufacturing footprint. The most notable transactions we supported in 2021 are linked to the sale of wind turbines for the Dogger Bank project in the UK (the biggest Off-Shore Wind Farm in the world when completed) and for the Vineyard Wind project in the US (the first commercial scale Off-Shore Wind farm to operate in the US).

What do you feel are the pros and cons of an in-house legal role compared to a private practice one?

As in-house counsel you are exposed to a variety of different issues, and you develop expertise beyond pure legal matters (technical, financial, communication). But it is difficult to develop deep technical legal expertise on certain matters and so we are forced to rely on experts that typically sit outside the company.
