Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

The legal team of SAES promotes internal activities and makes use of external consultants only, when necessary. The scope is to improve the internal skills. Each member of the legal team shares their activity and know-how with the rest of the team weekly. 

Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?  

In the next 5 years, the activity of legal counsel will be more measured on performance as a freelancer, this will be necessary to find competent and efficient resources for their internal legal team. In addition, a good general counsel should learn to use properly all new technological software as, for example, artificial intelligence, if applicable and compliant with law. 

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company? 

SAES is adopting a sustainability plan, and the in-house counsel supports the development of the plan, sharing processes and policies, as well as monitoring the compliance of the sustainability plan. 

How would you assess the impact of new technologies on the legal landscape in Italy, and what measures would you propose to leverage these technologies while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations? 

As a legal department we are promoting a project to regulate a to define the process (through use of policies) to use new software and new technologies, such as the use of artificial intelligence. 

How do you stay updated on the evolving regulatory landscape in Italy and ensure compliance with domestic laws, EU regulations, and industry-specific regulations? 

To stay updated on regulations and legal industry in general I promote memberships to legal associations and training courses for all my team members.
