Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?
The general counsel role will become more technical, especially in the IT industry. It will be important to skilfully navigate amongst innovative tools, artificial intelligence and motivate an international and cross-jurisdictional team. Of course, the human touch will continue to be essential.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
I am proud to have a team with a lot of talent, who genuinely represent real diversity and inclusion in terms of sex, age, race, culture, and country. We implement cross jurisdictional squads that holistically tackle a topic until its resolution.
What steps do you take to ensure effective communication and collaboration with external counsel and other stakeholders during the dispute resolution process?
The key is not to outsource the work entirely to the external counsel, who is a technical expert. The legal department has the advantage of thoroughly understanding the company. Hence, they need to master the dispute, decide the strategy, and give the needed value add.
