Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
Being a company that manages IP rights for own and operated services but also third-party services through sublicense agreements, we developed an internal tool which allows to see if exploitation rights, we have in house match the rights we aim to sublicense. This increased the speed of checks and feedback to the commercial teams.
Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?
What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in Italy? Digitalization of the media services and advertising solutions, review of the traditional TV business models, local growth of global players. All these elements request to GC the need of constant update and adaptation of legal solutions to new trends (e.g. deep dive on new technical solutions, improve skills on personal data protection and management, provide legal market analysis on wider scale).
How do you stay updated on the evolving regulatory landscape in Italy and ensure compliance with domestic laws, EU regulations, and industry-specific regulations?
In global organizations the role of local advisors is key. We implemented an “open door” approach based on continuous exchange of views and interpretation of regulation evolutions which creates a mutual benefit. Law firms get the view from market operators and company gets the view from specialized legal advisors. At the same time, update and legal trends coming from other EU countries, UK and US are key to foresee potential development in regulations and decisions at local level.
What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, you are passionate about, and why?
Working for a company which manages a relevant portfolio of kids’ channels/content and being father of two 4 years old twins, I am becoming passionate about the science of education and particularly on the impact that tv content can have on children. Particularly I am working on regulatory solutions which can encourage and support ethic and positive kids’ services (e.g., prominence of regulated services, assignment of quality certification to media services).
