Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
As an in-house legal team, we are used to draft and review various samples of contracts (e.g., MoU, investment agreements, service agreements, etc.) to standardize as much as possible the legal documents and speed up the process.
Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?
Standardisation of legal documents will be an important trend, also to allow the business team to feel confident in handling legal matters also without the constant help of the legal team.
What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in Italy?
ESG matters are strongly impacting investment funds sector.
What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?
We have adopted ESG specific policies and disclosures in compliance with SFDR; as a general counsel I am constantly involved the process, as well as in the discussions with the competent Italian authorities (i.e., Bank of Italy and CONSOB).
How would you assess the impact of new technologies on the legal landscape in Italy, and what measures would you propose to leverage these technologies while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations?
New technologies will help to standardize legal analysis, but they will be far from helping in the negotiation process of complex transactions.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
We have adopted, at group level, a gender diversity policy, which also focuses on gender pay gap. As a legal team we promote gender equality and, as a matter of fact, women are the main part of the team.
How do you stay updated on the evolving regulatory landscape in Italy and ensure compliance with domestic laws, EU regulations, and industry-specific regulations?
Website, databases, newsletters, conventions.
What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, you are passionate about, and why?
Sustainability is a challenging and crucial matter which could really change the way business in carried out.
