How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

Over the last few years, our legal keywords have been “flexibility”, “consistency” and “execution”. The 3 words together have been the mantra to face this period of great transformation. Resilience, in fact, is the result of a legal leadership showing the capability to quickly adapt to sudden changes (flexibility) with, at the same time, the force to deliver timely results by reaching the planned goals (execution) keeping the same straightforward approach on a global scale (execution).      

What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently? 

I have been involved in some of the most important partnerships at PayPal such as the partnerships with Shopify, Wix, Prestashop, Stripe, Adyen, WorldPay.  

How have you integrated technology into your legal processes, and what impact has this had on efficiency and compliance? 

Being a tech company is easy for PayPal to integrate technology into all the processes. Over the last few years, we have been able to develop technologies and tools intended to simplify and streamline most of the internal legal activities. The AI is ultimately playing an essential role in the management of legal processes: from the automation of templates to the creation of internal playbooks. Lawyers rely on AI and internal tools to grant efficiency in contract automation, template generation and management, pre and post signature quality and content check. These pieces, efficiently balanced, are intended to improve execution and consistency across the organisation.  

What role does the legal department play in promoting and ensuring corporate social responsibility in your organisation? 

The legal team at PayPal plays a very important role in promoting the company values and culture based on the company principles and social responsibility is one of those principles. The legal team, together with other teams, is always an active part of initiatives such as team activities, Individual engagements, swag, prizes, fireside chats intended to promote, among the others, social responsibility. Such initiatives are led by line managers, supported by senior legal leaders, senior business champions, and site leads.
