How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Our legal strategy is built to be adaptable and proactive, enabling us to effectively tackle legal challenges during uncertain times and maintain our resilience. It encompasses a thorough set of information security policies covering all systems, assets, personnel, and processes to manage cybersecurity risks efficiently. Additionally, we have a dedicated global human rights team tasked with upholding our commitment to human rights throughout our operations and supply chain, through due diligence, supplier oversight, and reporting. Moreover, our robust risk management framework addresses macroeconomic and geopolitical risks, ensuring the fulfillment of contracts by our group and its stakeholders.
What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?
Recently, I’ve been heavily involved in creating and implementing a detailed guide on control, risk assessments, and the approval process for non-standard contracts. This work is crucial for upholding our organisation’s compliance and risk management standards. I’ve focused on developing risk mitigation strategies specific to our operational and financial risks, which included drafting comprehensive action plans and working closely with various teams to seamlessly integrate these strategies into our daily operations. Additionally, I’ve organised and led training sessions to enhance employee awareness and understanding of risk management, aiming to cultivate a culture where everyone is conscious of their part in risk management and mitigation.
How do you measure the impact of ESG initiatives on the company’s overall performance and reputation?
The group evaluates the effectiveness of its ESG initiatives on the company’s performance and reputation using a variety of metrics and reports. Our Sustainable Impact Report offers in-depth insights into our policies, programs, objectives, and advancements in sustainability, including performance data that spans our global operations. It features ESG metrics crucial for gauging our success in reducing carbon emissions, managing environmental impacts throughout our value chain, and identifying areas for enhancement. To ensure a holistic understanding, we also share updates on our sustainability efforts and progress in the executive summary available on our website. This comprehensive strategy allows stakeholders to fully grasp our dedication to sustainability and the real-world effects of our actions.
What role does the legal department play in promoting and ensuring corporate social responsibility in your organisation?
The legal department is pivotal in fostering corporate social responsibility (CSR) by engaging in several key areas such as information security – ensuring adherence to the group’s cybersecurity policy for comprehensive information protection; corporate policies, offering a compilation of policies on legal, environmental, health, safety, and more, vital for CSR; Ethics and Compliance, maintaining our commitment to integrity and ensuring all employees adhere to the company’s code of conduct; agreements, incorporating CSR-focused clauses to promote eradication of forced labor, diversity, equity, inclusion, and support for diverse businesses, ensuring adherence to global agreements with CSR provisions. Their role underscores a dedication to embedding CSR within our business practices and legal frameworks, ensuring compliance with laws while promoting ethical standards and societal contributions.
