Luigi Lavazza
Italian manufacturer of coffee products Luigi Lavazza was founded in Turin in 1895. Leading the legal team for the last 16 years, general counsel, Simona Musso has been integral in developing a strong legal function integrated within the company, as the brand continues to grow at an exponential rate. Between all team members, the function brings a wide scope of experience to the business, working on all M&A’s, international distribution contracts and intellectual property matters. The Lavazza legal team was praised for its exceptional legal work and their success on two strategic international acquisitions in Denmark and France. 2017 has proven to be instrumental for the company to achieve its global ambitions, going on to acquire a number of companies. One of the large scales acquisitions involved Lavazza buying 80% of Canada’s Kicking Horse Coffee in May 2017, a project the legal team has enabled. With plans to expand even further, Lavazza is currently targeting a turnover of €2.2bn by 2020, with plans to continue with further acquisitions. The legal team will be at the forefront of this expansion, enabling the company to compete with major players in the industry and evaluate new opportunities for growth.
