Established in 1940 by Tuscan engineer Ernesto Gabrielli, SAES Group is an electrical and scientific components focused on inventing and manufacturing advanced functional materials. In their 70 year history SAES has deposited over 300 patents, marking an average of about 10 inventions per year. Protecting the company’s discoveries and intellectual property is a crucial asset to the business which is where the legal team enact a ‘best practise’ approach to ensure all inventions are fully protected. Equally as crucial are the compliance matters, which is why the team has recently introduced a compliance programme along with a compliance officer. The SAES legal team is currently made up of five professionals and is led by the general counsel, Patrizia Carrozza. Amongst some of its most highlighted team members include senior legal counsel and deputy general counsel, Alessandro Altei for his support on a number of recent transactions. Commenting on the team culture Altei says: ‘The approach of the legal team is to maximise the internal resources and to improve the know-how using external advisors only if strictly necessary’. The legal team supported an instrumental joint venture with Polyera Inc to create flexible display technology, this new merger named Flexterra which has operations in Italy, Taiwan and the United States.
