A2A Group
Italian utility A2A was founded out of the merger of Italian companies AEM (Azienda Energetica Municipale) of Milan and ASM Brescia (Azienda dei Servizi Municipalizzati) at the end of 2007 with its main activities in the production, sale and distribution of energy. The legal department is focused on providing proactive legal advice in order to help the business to achieve its strategic objectives while complying with applicable laws, regulations and company policies, remaining consistent with the values of the A2A Group. Led by general counsel Alessandra Ferrari, the legal team is made up of 33 lawyers, three support staff, six paralegals and eight compliance specialists. The team is organised both by subject matter and business unit, dedicated to the subject matters of contracts and IP, public procurement, litigation, public tenders and environmental law, corporate and finance, credit collection as well as legal operations and labour and employment. One of the most recent changes for the legal team has been the creation of a compliance team, which is composed of 12 people and is focused mainly on law 231, data protection and international trade compliance. As of 1 September 2019, the legal team has worked on the integration of the LGH Group which was acquired by A2A in 2016, composed of around ten people. With these additions the legal department has doubled its size. Most notably, the team has supported the creation of the “Multi-utility del Nord” a large conglomerate of multi-utilities in Northern Italy, where A2A is the majority shareholder.
