BNP Paribas Real Estate is a European commercial property consultancy company with around 2,600 employees in 51 cities. In Italy, the BNP Paribas Real Estate legal and corporate affairs function is a department composed by seven in-house lawyers and one paralegal. The legal team is divided into seven departments – corporate affairs, legal affairs, regulatory affairs, insurance, reporting, legal watch and risk management and control. In the last few years, the legal department has been considered not only as a business partner, giving legal advice, but also as a control function by establishing their reputation among the different business lines. The legal team is integrated as a vertical function that provides services and advice to the different business lines in the real estate investment management, property development, property management, advisory and valuation divisions. ‘The aim is to provide the same guidance, the same level of assistance and provide for the same legal requirements to the different managers and staff that are involved in these business lines, even taking into account the specific differences and businesses’, says, general counsel for BNP Paribas Real Estate Italy, Marina Montotti. The team has consequently adopted the same rules of involvement, contract templates and procedures as the business, in order to provide the same level of competence and duty in their daily work.
