What are the most significant cases, transactions or projects that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Our legal team recently had notable success in litigation that was initiated several years ago. In this complex litigation, the challenge was to prove that the other party had breached the rules. Through close collaboration with the business team and external legal counsel, we conducted a thorough investigation and gathered compelling evidence to support our claims. Despite the initial difficulties we faced, our legal team skillfully led the case to victory. This victory not only protected our interests, but also instilled motivation and morale in our employees.

Furthermore, our legal team has been instrumental in facilitating the revision of work rules. By devising innovative ideas for new rules, we have achieved a delicate balance between labor law compliance and business needs. These efforts have enabled employees to maintain a flexible work style while complying with the law.

In addition, the corporate secretary team, which forms part of the legal team, has significantly strengthened the operation of the Board. Through the organisation of detailed agendas and support to Board members, the corporate secretary team plays a key role in facilitating informed and strategic business decisions while strengthening the overall governance of the company.

Could you share an example of a time when your team came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

Our legal team has recently introduced a streamlined process for communicating monthly regulatory updates to the business team. After collaborating with external counsel, the team has successfully simplified the previous process. As a result, the workload of legal team members has been significantly reduced, which allows them to devote more time and attention to substantive legal matters. Importantly, the associated costs were relatively small compared to the significant benefits brought about by this improvement.

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values?

Choosing external lawyers who have a deep understanding of our business and values is of the utmost importance. Working with external lawyers who are familiar with our industry and familiar with our corporate culture is crucial in protecting our company in matters of litigation and developing tailor-made solutions to new initiatives. Our legal team has developed long-term relationships with a select group of external lawyers, enabling them to acquire comprehensive knowledge of our business operations, our core company values and our strategic business.

How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?

Establishing strong relationships with our business partners is instrumental in fostering efficiency and effectiveness within our legal team. To cultivate such relationships, it is imperative that our legal team familiarizes themselves with the initiatives pursued by our business partners. By demonstrating our ability to provide effective solutions to legal challenges and assuring them of our commitment to mitigating legal risks, we can become trusted advisors in achieving their goals. Proactive and face-to-face communication has been the cornerstone of our approach to building robust relationships with our business partners, ensuring a seamless collaboration and mutual understanding.
