What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have been involved in over the past year?
In handling dispute cases, I have been responsible for formulating negotiation strategies with the opposing party, participating in negotiations, executing legal procedures, and acting as a representative of the company. Additionally, I have supported the promotion of our company’s new venture into the renewable energy business by developing its schemes and negotiating with business partners. In our overseas projects, I have participated in researching the business environment of new countries we plan to enter, conducting investigations on legal systems and risks.

Based on your experience, what is the key to collaborating successfully with business partners?

I believe that sharing information is the key. For successful collaboration, everyone needs to work towards the same goal with the same understanding of the information. When working with internal business partners, the legal team needs to step into their domain to gather as much information as possible. Simultaneously, the legal team must explain their professional knowledge in the simplest terms possible, clearly presenting the benefits and risks. This ensures that discussions are based on mutual understanding.

The same principle applies when working with external lawyers. To make the best use of their expertise, it is essential to clearly organise and convey the company’s information. The legal team should act as translators, ensuring that external lawyers fully understand all the relevant details about the company.

How do you motivate and manage the other members of your legal team well?

I encourage team members to envision their long-term career plans and consider their personal interests and the skills they wish to develop. Based on these reflections, I assign tasks to each member. I provide initial guidance and set deadlines, but I leave the execution of the assigned tasks to the team members. This approach allows them to work with autonomy, fostering a sense of responsibility and accomplishment.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about, and why?

I am passionate about advancing new challenges. When someone, including myself, wants to start a new challenge, I strive to remove obstacles and help them move forward. I believe that taking on new challenges makes the world a better and more exciting place.
