Executive officer in charge of legal, intellectual property and government relations | SECOM

First, can you describe your legal team and its responsibilities?
Thank you for the opportunity to describe SECOM’s Legal Team. SECOM’s legal team originally emerged from an organisation that was contractually shaping a new security business and has both a business and a corporate character. Our legal team is a diverse and talented group of people who have the honour of contributing their legal expertise to each of SECOM’s business areas. They are active in a wide range of areas including governance, projects, transactions, internal and external mergers and acquisitions, management of intangible assets, and government relations.

Are there any initiatives that you have worked on, besides legal work, that you would like to mention?

SECOM’s legal team also engages in SECOM’s external relations activities with an eye to contributing to society and the public interest. For example, in order to effectively pass on benefits to workers, we took a leadership role in an industry group to develop a policy to promote price shifting in the security industry and supply chain, in light of the Japanese government’s policy to promote price shifting.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about, and why?
SECOM’s legal team is interested in trends in disclosure regulations related to sustainability and intangibles. For example, if the regulations are primarily designed with manufacturers in mind, there may be a lack of consideration regarding the service industry, which may not be good for either the market or the company, or in some cases may be harmful to the beneficial real business. We also look at what intangible asset management in the security business should look like.
