First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?
In addition to increasing the total size of our assets under management with the first close of Marguerite’s latest fund, Marguerite III, in the last year alone we have provided legal support on six new investments, including in a leading electric vehicle charging service provider in the Nordics, a telecommunications operator in Slovakia, a renewables project developer in Germany and Poland and energy efficiency service companies in Spain and Italy as well as we assisted on four exits.
What particular industry trends are you seeing in the legal sector in Luxembourg?
To name a few general trends, I would say that there is more attention being paid to corporate substance in general for both regulatory and tax related reasons; traditional private equity funds are expanding into infrastructure fund products while traditional infrastructure funds open up to investing in new asset classes, both of which trigger new legal challenges; and increasing burden of regulatory supervision and legislation.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
Finding a balance between fund growth, sustainability of investments and economic robustness of the portfolio as a key component for the long-term success of an infrastructure fund. Personally, I am concerned about the Ukrainian war and believe we all should do our best to help Ukraine resist aggression in order to restore peace on the European continent.
