First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?
My team is in charge of coordinating any kind of transaction, involving our Luxembourg funds and subsidiaries. It could be an acquisition (asset or share deal), a sale, a bank financing, or a portfolio restructuring, but also a merger, a migration, or a liquidation. On top of the transactional workstreams, the team handles the corporate secretary of each of our Luxembourg vehicles, together with supervising the other jurisdictions. This multi-tasking requires different talents! Cross-border expertise, multilingualism, fund management and administration, together with any new AIFM regulations.
What particular industry trends are you seeing in the legal sector in Luxembourg?
I have seen an increased growth in the number of business law firms or in-house departments, to meet the various demands from international clients on the regulatory or financial aspects. It is important to note the development of automation in the legal sector, which is one of the main challenges of the decade from my perspective! It is crucial to be more proactive and more efficient, stay attractive cost wise, and decrease the risk of errors in producing recurrent documents. Hiring legal and compliance profiles is more and more expensive in Luxembourg and there is quite a lack of talent. Developing automation would give another “visage” to the legal sector in Luxembourg.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
Modernisation of our way of working, better work life balance and a recognition of our value in the Luxembourg financial sector! We are definitely not the back office of Europe!
