Catherine Schmidt
General counsel | Encevo
Team size: 22, across four countries (Luxembourg, Germany, France, and Belgium)
First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?
As part of a major actor in the energy sector in Luxembourg, our legal team has been extremely busy in the past months dealing with questions linked to the energy crisis resulting from the Ukraine war, and adjusting to numerous new regulations, not only on purely energy matters, but also ancillary rules like data protection or economic sanctions. Encevo’s legal team is deeply involved in structuring and counselling on various energy transition projects, ranging from development of renewable energy generation projects to offering energy solution and efficiency services.
What particular industry trends are you seeing in the legal sector in Luxembourg?
An increasing level of regulation, rise of AI (prospects and risks), and generally the expansion of IT topics across all activities.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
Climate change and the energy transition! And trying to prepare the younger generation to tackle its future challenges, remembering how important and inspiring my own mentors were.
