Executive director, legal | Lions Gate Entertainment
First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?
Our legal team has been deeply involved in a number of projects, including the following two, working closely together with our business teams. The first project is about separating our Lionsgate studio business from our Starz streaming business. This is a complex process because our businesses operate on a large scale and across numerous countries. The second concerns the acquisition and integration of Entertainment One, a multinational studio group. These projects require teamwork and coordination between our teams around the world. They also present challenges due to the complexity of the businesses, as well as the diverse regulatory frameworks and legal issues involved. Our legal team plays a critical role in navigating and ensuring the success of global transactions.
What particular industry trends are you seeing in the legal sector in Luxembourg?
Luxembourg’s corporate legal industry is rapidly digitalising, with a notable shift towards employing artificial intelligence for tasks like legal research and document analysis, thereby elevating the efficiency and precision of certain legal services. Concurrently, there is an intensified focus on regulatory compliance, where Luxembourg’s legal experts are diligently keeping pace with evolving laws and regulations. This is crucial in a country that stands as a major European financial hub. Additionally, the demand for cross-border legal expertise is surging, driven by Luxembourg’s strategic role in international finance and business. Legal professionals are increasingly expected to navigate complex cases across multiple jurisdictions, a need accentuated by the growth in sectors like fintech, e-commerce, and data protection. These trends collectively are steering Luxembourg’s legal practices into a future that aligns with both global technological progress and the distinct demands of its local market.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
An overarching cause I care deeply about is education, in particular improving the quality of education and making it more accessible. I believe accessible education not only benefits individuals by expanding their horizons and unlocking their potential, but also contributes to society and businesses by fostering economic prosperity, social mobility, and fostering a more informed, innovative, and equitable society. For instance, something as ostensibly simple as mastering effective communication can be learned. Once acquired, this skill serves as a powerful tool, capable of preventing or substantially alleviating the majority of challenges encountered in both personal and professional spheres.
