First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?
B Medical Systems (BMed) became part of Azenta in 2022. BMed is a global leader in vaccine cold chain, medical refrigeration, and blood management. Azenta is listed on Nasdaq and provides unrivalled sample exploration and management helping to accelerate discovery, development, and delivery of new critical therapies.
The leitmotiv of our legal team is to guide, protect and inspire by acting as real business partners. As chief legal counsel of BMed, I encourage my team to think proactively and act as a real sparring partner to the business to advance and support in navigating them into unchartered waters.
Although our compliance program at BMed is robust, our team continuously aims to mature our compliance program further. Our team has acted as the driving force in putting in place a comprehensive yearly Compliance Action Plan focusing on improving internal controls and contributing to stronger profitability through robust commercial policies and commercial model improvements. On a continuous basis, our team ensures colleagues and sales channel partners are trained in key compliance areas and walk the talk by complying with our policies and standard of conduct.
Furthermore, we have successfully negotiated and concluded more than 500 agreements globally, going from various commercial, strategic alliances, R&D, supply chain and logistics related agreements. A new privacy management software was rolled out, contributing to the enrichment of our data protection program. Finally, our team is encouraged to actively network among legal professionals and to dedicate time for continuous training.
What particular industry trends are you seeing in the legal sector in Luxembourg?
As the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg is one of the richest countries in the world and the second-largest investment fund centre after the USA, there is a booming and dynamic market around many types of services, including legal services, especially due to the continuous attraction for businesses to establish in Luxembourg and the attractive salary package for non-Luxembourgish residents. Also, various banks and major companies having their European headquarters based in Luxembourg, thus continuing to ensure that Luxembourg remains an attractive hub for legal professionals. A trend which will most likely remain steady for the foreseeable future.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
I have always been a legal professional driven by a higher purpose to do good for the people, planet, and animals. In choosing the companies I work for, I always favour companies with a real positive impact on the world by means of the products they put on the market or the services they deliver. Since the beginning of my career, I have always had a constant red line around contributing as a legal professional to sustainability. I am thrilled to now be part of Azenta and BMed as they match the purpose I stand for: to actively contribute to putting health first, by saving lives through reliable and innovative technologies. Moreover, BMed is market leader for high quality vaccine cold chain and blood, organ and plasma refrigeration for major clients such as WHO, UNICEF and GAVI, ensuring proper cold chain assurance in many countries around the world, an particularly in countries in need of proper storage of vaccines, blood, plasma, organs located in Sub-Saharan Africa, and countries suffering from war and undergoing a humanitarian crisis.
