How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
In times of instability or crisis, it is very important to stay close to the clients and other market players in order to anticipate challenges and find the best solutions together. In the Luxembourg ecosystem, this works very well.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?
As business is continuously growing, digital tools are indispensable for legal to cope with the increasing workload. digital tools can do boring and repetitive work much better and faster than humans. This leaves more time for discretionary and strategic thinking.
Before starting to use new technologies, we check up front whether they comply with data protection and bank secrecy restrictions. If this is the case, we fully embrace new technologies and share best practices regarding their use.

Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
I have twice in my career been in the front seat of the sale of the bank where i worked. These were interesting projects both from a technical legal and from an emotional and managerial point of view. especially the legal demerger of ABN AMRO Bank Luxembourg after part of it had been sold in 2007 to RBS was challenging.

How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?
I believe that the general counsel plays a very important role in steering management and the entire company towards a culture of proper governance and a fair and social way of dealing with clients, colleagues, suppliers, and other third parties in contracts and advice.
