Spotlight on: Our company
Allegro.eu SA is a Luxembourg entity and one of the largest companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Established 25 years ago, Allegro is today an e-commerce platform used by millions across the CEE. As General Counsel of the Luxembourg entity and Chief Legal Officer of its main operating subsidiary, Tom has navigated the legal and regulatory affairs framework that underpin our growth, orchestrated a highly successful IPO in an expedited time frame — the largest in the Warsaw bourse’s history (market cap at IPO was approximately 10 billion Euros), as well as the group’s international expansion across the region alongside the ongoing development of the group’s financial services and logistics operations. Tom’s responsibilities range far beyond legal affairs, with oversight of regulatory and public affairs, PR, and ESG matters, as well as compliance, risk, data protection, information security, BCM, and insurance and loss protection issues. It is never a boring day with such a range of activities in an ever-growing international company.
Ensuring effective regulatory compliance across our operational business units and geographies is critical. This requires adept and determined oversight, recognising the nuances of an increasingly unified regulatory environment in the EU alongside national needs. Top of mind this year for Allegro is preparation for the implementation of the new CSRD ESG reporting requirements, ensuring that the data capture needed for the reporting is robust, compliant and intrinsically linked to showcasing our core strategic priorities. Tom is a highly respected expert and opinion-leader across a range of evolving EU regulatory topics, issues that affect Allegro and the wider EU digital business community. He brings deep understanding of complex multi-jurisdictional issues and is a highly skilled relationship manager, with unique and compelling conflict resolution skills. Tom leads the $500 mln lawsuit against Google filed by the Ceneo price comparison website owned by Allegro. This is a follow-on claim for damages after the courts confirmed the European Commission’s 2017 Google Shopping Case and the largest case of its kind in Polish history.
Bio
Tom is President of the Allegro Foundation, which has contributed almost 100 million euros over the last three years to the fight against COVID-19 and the consequences of the war in Ukraine. Allegro’s online auction platform is available free of charge to hundreds of NGOs allowing them to collect funding to allow them to conduct their activities. Allegro is passionate about its social responsibilities, and Tom is a fitting champion and guardian in this regard.
Prior to Allegro, Tom — a graduate of the Warwick University Law School — worked as Of Counsel at the Polish law firm Wardynski & Partners, as a Management Board member at the WSE-listed telecommunications company Netia SA, and then at WSE-listed Apator SA and Magna Polonia SA. Tom was the Chair of the Brussels-based European Competitive Telecommunications Association and served as deputy chair of the SOT KIGEIT in Warsaw (the telecoms part of the National Chamber of Commerce). He is also a Member of the Board at the “Dorastaj z nami” (“Grow with us”) Foundation, taking care of children of Polish soldiers, police, fire, and border guards who died in the course of duty.
