Can you please give us an idea of the work your team has done recently?
In the last 18 months, our team has participated in very diverse and complex legal matters, including the negotiation and execution of agreements with franchisors, property owners and suppliers to obtain relief because of the adverse effects of the pandemic, the restructuring of the financial debt of our group (of over $1000m) , and successfully carrying out a restructure of our internal labor structure in Mexico, involving over 40,000 employees, to comply with legal reforms regarding outsourcing.
We also negotiated and executed a master franchise agreement for the exclusive development of Domino´s pizza stores in Uruguay and carried out the acquisition of an additional 10% stake in Food Service Project, our holding company for Europe, which operates the largest restaurant group in Spain.
Which recent political, economic, or regulatory changes have impacted the company and the team the most?
The Covid-19 pandemic and its associated restrictions, as well as the recent legal reform to outsourcing in Mexico, have impacted the team a lot.
How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?
The pandemic required in-house counsel and general counsel to be more inclined towards achieving immediate results, be very cost-efficient, and to apply themselves in a more creative manner. For instance, to think out of the box to implement legal new structures to help his or her organization cope with and survive the pandemic.
