Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

The pandemic has shown us that we do not need to have all contracts and legal documents in hard copy or have a physical filing system. Information Technology (IT) tools such as contract management and electronic signature tools are here to stay. All in-house legal teams must use and have such IT tools.

In what ways do you see the in-house legal role evolving in your region over the next few years?

In-house lawyers must be increasingly involved with the use of IT tools that can help the internal process be more efficient. Also, I predict an increasing focus on compliance and regulation.

What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

We were involved in the JV transaction between WeWork Companies and Softbank Latin America. We have also been party to several arbitration cases and favorably implemented COVID regulations within the company.

As we enter the next decade, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

There will be a need for openness to embracing modern technology, an aptitude for fastidious compliance and a strong motivation to understand the business and its operations.
