How has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected the company and your legal team’s priorities?

I am proud to work in a great company with a bold vision towards the future. We aim to achieve zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestions. From a climate change and sustainability perspective, our vision is to eliminate over two billion tons of carbon dioxide. From a legal perspective, our goal is to provide practical, compliant legal solutions that can be applied to the business operations without affecting it.

What do you think are the biggest risks facing your industry at the moment and how are you preparing your company and team to face these risks?

It depends on each country, as every country has its own reality. Referring specifically to Mexico, there are many opportunities due to the new rules and regulations which the government is promoting and implementing. Energy, labour, outsourcing and other key topics are part of our agenda. To be prepared, the team is constantly monitoring the Mexican governments’ initiatives, analysing potential associated risks and defining action plans to mitigate these risks. In some instances, the legal department leads the organisation and coordinates execution. Furthermore, the legal department also communicates with key government stakeholders to share our perspective and understand theirs.

What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The legal team is always involved in a large variety of cases, due to the complexity of the business. We focus on simple day-to-day transactions such as contract management, corporate secretarial matters, and general legal advice. We are also involved in more complex operations such as entity liquidation, product, and regulatory compliance. Our team is also focused on matters such as labour and commercial litigation, new products development compliance and dealer operations legal framework. Additionally, we work on several compliance issues such as USMCA compliance, anti-money and anti-corruption and ethics compliance.

Our team is changing the organisational culture by implementing legal tech products that are helpful in preventing contingencies. Additionally, it expedites the decision-making process in corporations (i.e., contract management, anti-money laundering compliance systems.)
