Can you please give us an idea of the work your team has done recently?

Our team refers to a large group (Grupo PiSA) of medical service providers and pharmaceutical companies, one of which is the largest pharmaceutical company in Mexico (Laboratorios Pisa), that employs more than twenty thousand workers and professionals and owns fourteen plants. The fields of law we focus on, that help the Group reach its goals, are transactional, litigation, intellectual property, corporate and procurement. This year specifically, our 25 in-house lawyers and chemists made possible a contractual partnership with a Dutch company that will permit the group to sell and provide usually scarce baby and infant formulae to its consumers. We also created a new company in the Group to which the most important trademark of the group was assigned to, that yielded a worldwide corporate and financial analysis. Our team also managed the group’s participation and guidance in Mexico’s largest pharmaceutical procurement process of the year, which led the group to win the tender, as well as numerous relevant administrative judicial processes.

Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted the company and the team the most?

The 2018 Mexican presidential election results had a significant impact on the Group, due to the multiple noteworthy regulatory reforms implemented by now elect President in connection with public health policies. The legal team unfalteringly adapted to these new rules and conditions, and assisted the company manage this ever-changing landscape in the best possible manner. A situation that germinated into the development of the Group’s new plant for oncological medicines, which is set to be the largest in Latin America.

Even in the best-case scenario, Covid is likely to have far-reaching ramifications. How are you safeguarding the long-term health of the business?

Covid impacted the group’s employees and families. As a result, the group took into consideration its employees’ well-being and implemented working conditions that safeguarded its employees’ overall health, such as, working from home, social distancing at the office, vaccination campaigns, awareness campaigns, among others. In Mexico, the group was considered an essential part in safeguarding the nation’s health, as it manufactured facemasks, gloves, antibacterial gel, respiratory devices, and respiratory medicines, especially at the time COVID gravely affected the country. This prevented the business from shutting down and resiliently allowed it to grow its production and performance.
