"Teresa Cabrera has led Grupo Coppel’s legal division for over two decades, a corporation that includes one of the largest retail industries in Mexico, as well as banking and financial services, pension funds, real state, and international trade activities in Mexico and Latin America. To successfully manage this diverse and complex agenda, Ms. Cabrera led an institutionalisation process to build a robust and professional legal team to assist the firm’s board and all its business branches, and to prevent any misdoings in high-risk operations that include money laundering, anti-corruption policies and prevention of terrorism funding. In the early 2000s, the legal division was a litigation office with a reduced number of collaborators. Now, it is a comprehensive and specialised department, not only attending to law requirements and litigations, but also defining corporate-level policies in terms of ethics, business integrity, transparency, ESG initiatives, and best practices in corporate governance. Besides her work to consolidate the Coppel legal division, she joined the risk committee and the communication and control committee, to create strategies to identify and face situations that could affect Coppel and its clients. In the context of the pandemic, Ms. Cabrera managed to increase the monitoring, analysis, and response capacity according to the multiple legal and regulatory changes applicable to each business units to successfully meet the requirements of the authorities at local, state, and federal levels in a timely manner. These actions allowed to keep +90% of retail operations country wide, and to sustain over a 70% of cashflow in all business branches despite restrictions during the pandemic. "
