Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

We implemented a system that allowed us to automate the legal documents and contracts we execute with our clients and improve our claims and debt collection management and reports. This system allows us to have daily reports about collection and executed contracts, which is key to developing our legal strategy.

Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?

It is crucial for general counsel to be up to date on the new technological developments and trends, to use it in their favour and to assess and mitigate the legal risks that might result from such developments. Also, is critical that the general counsel and the entire legal team develop a “business partner” approach, to be able to collaborate with the other functions of the company fully and effectively.

What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in Mexico?

The regulatory trends are having a major impact in our sector, especially those related to sustainable energy, tax, and tobacco.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

As a company we are very committed to having diverse teams in regard to gender, age, and backgrounds, among others. Hence, we have different initiatives to guarantee that all persons are considered for a promotion, new positions, and personal and professional development programs.
