Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
We have used technology to work remotely and share practices and experiences from the team in the region, which we then copy or apply in various countries. With the help of available technologies and analysis from the legal department, we have been able to establish legal coincidences and differences throughout the countries in the region, that allow us to be more productive and dedicate our resources and time efficiently.
Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?
I am certain AI is not the future anymore; it is here and will continue to develop at a pace that will be challenging to keep up with. We need to train and develop our legal team to understand, embrace and learn how to use AI and/ or navigate the challenges it will bring.
How would you assess the impact of new technologies on the legal landscape in Mexico, and what measures would you propose to leverage these technologies while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations?
Apart from the obvious impact on speed, productivity and real-time solutions and problem solving, the major impact and challenge created by technology which crosses into the regulatory environment is and will continue to be data privacy and protection. Having systems in place that ensure compliance with the various regulations, particularly those that have a cross border impact and consequences is paramount. Then there is everything that is related to data protection and cyber security which is a whole topic of the utmost importance in itself.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
Diversity and inclusion are core values of the company and there are many programs and activities in the company to promote and make sure this value is alive and well. We are looking for the best talent available to us.
For us, it is clear that talent as it relates to knowledge and abilities comes with all genders and preferences as does creativity, so we have policies and processes in place to ensure that we can attract and keep the talent we need. We sponsor and foster diversity ally programs to make sure people have a comfortable and safe work environment where they can contribute and perform at their best.
