Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

The legal and compliance team decided to assume the responsibility of processing and regularising all plant licenses and permits. This allowed us to save time and streamline the process, ensuring that all our factories had up-to-date permits. This is an ongoing task, and we are delighted to have taken it on because we can plan and execute it at a much lower cost than outsourcing to external firms, while maintaining a high degree of control and corporate governance.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

Rotoplas has a sustainability strategy based on 3 pillars; profit, people and planet. The execution of the initiatives in each pillar is supervised by the sustainability committee and its nine workgroups. In the social (people) workgroups, diversity and inclusion is a priority; in planet, the reduction of carbon emission, adoption of circular economy and waste management are main topics; and finally in the profit arena, ethics and anticorruption, risk management and transparency are prime concerns.

We paid particular attention to corporate governance, developing a corporate governance committee that assesses compliance risks and creates a comprehensive compliance plan for the entire company. It has been a year since the establishment of this committee, and we are seeing excellent results. We recently published a new code of ethics and have been providing training on various compliance-related topics to the company, for which we have received significant support from our board of directors and senior management.
