About

Natalia Aguirre was appointed general legal director of Grupo Financiero Citibanamex, effective July 1, 2021. In her role, Natalia is responsible for the appropriate strategy, management and supervision of all legal and regulatory matters of Grupo Financiero Citibanamex and the management of corporate governance of all its entities. Natalia serves as the main legal advisor to the General Directorate and senior management and is responsible for providing legal services to the entire organisation. In January 2022, with the announcement of the divestment of Citi’s consumer and business banking business in Mexico, Natalia assumed, in addition to her responsibilities as General Legal Director, the burden of leading the interaction strategy with Mexican regulators to enable the disinvestment in question.

Natalia joined Citi in 1996 and Citibanamex in 2016 as deputy legal director. Before arriving in Mexico, he held different legal roles within the company. From 2011 to 2016, she was legal vice president and general secretary of Citibank Colombia and its subsidiaries. Previously, she was a senior regional attorney supervising several regional countries in treasury, transactional services, lending, M&A and other cross-border transactions. Likewise, for over three years, she oversaw the legal directorate of Citi Colfondos, the pension fund business in Colombia. After serving for three years as deputy legal director of Citibanamex, in 2019, Natalia was appointed legal director of Consumer Banking and Business Asset Management (Afore and Insurance) in Mexico.

In March 2023, Natalia was recognised as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Business by Expansión magazine. In July 2023, she was one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Mexico by Forbes Mexico magazine.

Natalia has a degree in Law from the Universidad del Rosario in Colombia. She has postgraduate studies in Commercial Law from the Universidad de los Andes and Contract Law from the Universidad Externado de Colombia. In 2019, she was accredited with a law degree in Mexico and is qualified to practice in Colombia and Mexico.
